Alopecia is a condition that, depending on its severity, can make you lose hair, make your hair grow far slower and in some rarer cases destroy the hair follicle completely. There are two different types of alopecia-
Otherwise known as cicatricial alopecia, this rarer type of ailment completely destroys the sebaceous (oil) gland within the hair follicle and leaves severe scarring in place.

There are more common forms of alopecia and affects quite a great number of people – all of which are highly treatable. One common type, Telogen Effluvium, causes slow hair growth and the widespread thinning of hair and is usually caused by hormonal or emotional changes. Another type, androgenetic alopecia, naturally makes the hair grow more slowly. There are a variety of medical treatments for ailments such as this which either supplement or suppress a certain chemical that is being released by the body in an effort to encourage healthy hair growth.
